What I won’t be talking about today - THE COMMENTARY

By Joseph Planta

VANCOUVER - Well, today’s edition isn’t going to talk about something political. I wanted to do a piece about this on-going Jane Stewart debacle and the something on the current NDP Leadership Convention. But I guess not, because I don’t have the time, nor the chutzpah to get it together for deadline. (As if you didn’t know, I write The Commentary on weekends, not during the week because I just don’t do that.) I could bitch and complain about the bloody Liberals, but alas it shall wait for another edition.

I wanted to do something about the Screen Actor’s Guild nominations, that came out last week, but alas I haven’t had the time to examine the nominees or handicap the races, so it’ll have to wait. I could do a piece on what I thought of the Mary and Rhoda reunion movie last Monday, but besides the fact it got ratings, I don’t feel like bashing Miss Moore more than once a week.

Currently the mucky-mucks of filmdom are gathering at the Berlin Film Festival for a terrific bun-toss, but alas I am neither in Germany, nor do I know of any films premiering there this year. (I did find out today, via news release from the Academy that James Coburn will be a presenter at this year’s Oscars.)

I could do a bash on Hillary Clinton and the launch of her Senate campaign, but then again I’d need time to prepare a proper bash. I wanted to do something on Dave Letterman’s heart surgery, but I haven’t even seen this week’s fill-in’s, so that too will have to wait.

You can bet your sweet bippy, I ain’t talking nothing about the classic 70’s sitcom All in The Family. A show that’s being re-run on Prime, because that was the topic of the very first edition of The Commentary way back in June of 1999. I also, re-ran that piece a couple weeks back.

I could do a piece on the Elian Gonzales controversy in Miami, but it’s been rather quiet in the press, so why not here? How about Bryan Williams and the porn on his computer? Well, no because I haven’t done much reading on that one.

So since I’ve just made a rough list of what I won’t be talking about in today’s edition of The Commentary, I guess I can sneak out and say you’ve just read it. Well, that’s it. Cheap eh? (I actually don’t have anything prepared for today, so I thought I’d just crap out.)

Stay tuned tomorrow for the winner of the contest.
