Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line. This is THECOMMENTARY.CA.

Jeffrey Alford, along with his wife Naomi Duguid, have recently published their sixth cookbook together. But to call it a cookbook would be a misnomer, because it's actually a lavishly photographed book with stories and fascinating cooking. The book is called Beyond The Great Wall: Recipes and Travels in the Other China, which gives us a view of the country and their food, that perhaps we're not familiar with. This isn't that shopping mall takeaway we're familiar with, rather we see a more ethnically diverse part of China whose cooking is geographically varied. Jeffrey Alford joins me now here in Vancouver. For over twenty-five years now, together and separately, they have travelled the world, sampling local cooking and street food, taking photos, and writing these books, which have won numerous awards. Beyond the Great Wall, published by Random House retails for $70.00. www.hotsoursaltysweet.com is their website. Do check it out. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Jeffrey Alford; Good morning, Mr. Alford.
