Text of introduction by Joseph Planta:

I am Planta: On the Line. This is THECOMMENTARY.CA.

Nam Le joins me now. He was born in Vietnam and raised in Australia. He joins me from here in Vancouver. He is the author of a new book, The Boat. It has been described by Kirkus Review as 'a polished and intense debut story collection of astonishing range.' And that it is. There are seven stories in here that take the reader from the slums of Colombia, to Tehran, to Iowa City, to Australia, the South China Sea, and New York City. They're powerful stories that speak to the reader. The Boat is published by Bond Street Books, an imprint of Doubleday and retails for $27.95. He is also the fiction editor of the Harvard Review. Please welcome to the Planta: On the Line program, Nam Le; Good morning, Mr. Le.
